visitor sent me an email that reads, how will the inclusion of thousands of Refugees
change the face of present day Europe and beyond? How will Europe look in the
next 10 years?
The migrant crises has been
mishandled by Europe, Arab states as well as African states. I believe the
problem could be solved from the point of entry especially in Libya and Turkey.
So many lives has been lost at sea because of the desperate attempt to reach
Europe. Before the crises that engulfed the Middle East, there was not much
influx of refugees. I do know that one is meant to seek refuge in the first safe
country according to the 2003 Dublin Regulation. Here
it is not the case, refugees are clamouring for countries of their own choosing
like Germany and United Kingdom. Although there are significant numbers of Refugees
in Turkey, Kenya and other parts of Africa.
There has been different
dimensions to the argument, there has been purported claims that Isis has
seized the refugee crises to flood its members to Europe. While the Central
European countries with Hungary being the first to say that the refugee migration
is a ploy to Islamise Europe. But that is not the case, let us not forget the
Christian Refugees whose voices have not been barely heard. There are also
those advocating for Europe to accept more refugees because in one way or the
other, Europe contributed to the ongoing crises. Yet, despite the various
dimensions to the refugee situation, most European countries are closely
guarding their borders, thus disrupting the free flow of migrants from Greece
to other parts of Europe.
All these different rhetoric has
been going on for more than 2 years yet the crises is not abating and more
refugees are fleeing to Europe. The refugees are suffering, the traffickers are
raking in money while Europe is yet to make a concrete decision. Greater focus
should be on ways to solve the refugee crises and stop the dangerous crossing
at the Mediterranean Sea.
So, the inclusion of thousands
of refugees in Europe will definitely change the face of Europe because most of
the refugees are of young procreative ages and these will definitely reflect in
10years. What is your view?
Well said! This entire thing is so unpredictable. It definitely gives a new dimension to the study of migration. Im interested to see how this will impact other nations interested in migrating to Europe. Either way the unpredictability does seem to indicate risk for what the future holds.
ReplyDeleteThis is an incredibly difficult phase for the regions being ravaged by war, but also for some countries dealing with the rising numbers of refugees. I think that the Dublin convention is not really realistic when you think about it because the refugees will always come in through certain routes. Thus thosw countries on those edges of the Mediterranean will always be the sole consistent recipients of refugees. There should have been a sharing formular from day 1.
