The above controversial picture produced by
Saatchi and Saatchi for Operation Black Vote (OBV) has got everyone talking in
UK.
Some people like Boris Johnson, Nigel Farage and London Mayor, Sadiq Khan
have all said that the picture promotes stereotyping and it is racist. According
to OBV, the slogan in the picture “a vote
is a vote” was aimed at addressing "the demonisation of foreigners
and people of colour” and also to encourage black and other ethnic minorities
to vote.
The focal point for UK’s EU referendum is immigration so, we should
not be surprised at the above poster. Many of the “in and out” campaigners have
been accused of sounding racist or employing tactics that some would term racists
in their arguments.
The West should know better because using
racial stereotypes inflames the situation. The debates on whether to remain or
not should be adequately highlighted with accurate facts on the pros and cons, for
the benefit of the citizens who are still undecided on how to cast their votes.
Meanwhile commonwealth citizens living in UK
can vote o but they are also quick to deport them (including 40 of my Naija
people that were deported yesterday) what exactly are the benefits of being Commonwealth
of Nations aside from the Commonwealth games and meetings?
The whole thing tire me. Common wealth my foot.
ReplyDeleteIt will be interesting to see the results of June 23rd. I will be following that very closely
ReplyDeleteLooking at this picture does not look like it is meant to attract just black votes. It is meant to attract all ethnic minorities. It is unavoidable not to link this with immigration. You would expect minorities to vote to stay in because it is in their interest. It is always about personal interest.
ReplyDeleteNow the government is coming out stronger pushing to show its working when it comes to immigration. Immigration is a sensitive topic but it's got every1 talking and the outcome on 23rd will show the way people are thinking. Europeans at the moment seem to be the ones on the hot seat and not commonwealth citizens.
ReplyDeleteImmigration is a huge problem but people will alway migrate to search for better life.who no wan good thing.
